| Biography: | A sunny So-Cal girl at heart, Wendy Matsutani (soprano) completed her Bachelor of Music at UC Santa Barbara before receiving her Masters of Music from the University of Minnesota. Now a Minneapolis resident, Wendy has enjoyed performing across the multifaceted sides of the city’s arts community and in various medium. Most recently, she has performed in Caught with Full Circle Theatre Company, OperaTease with Journey North Opera Company (JNOC), and in masterclasses with Broadway Playground. An active member of Gilbert & Sullivan Very Light Opera Company, Wendy has the pleasure to be cast in Ruddigore, The Mikado, and Princess Ida. Other favorite appearances include: Lady in the Dark (Sutton/Miss Foster), Susannah (Mrs. Gleaton), Luisa Fernanda (Rosita), and Die Zauberflöte (Papagena). In 2021, she is excited to perform in JNOC’s production of the contemporary drama, Proving Up. Wendy is happily married to her husband, Ryan and the 2020 Covid-era newlyweds are enjoying their Summer finding their first home together. |

| Source Moment: | Source Song Festival for me was an eye opening experience that changed my life as a young performer. I had just finished graduate school and had the mentality that most students feel when they first leave the nest - inexperienced and unsure how to fly into the professional world. Source empowered me to be my own artist. While I was there watching and performing in masterclasses, I learned from many different performers, teachers, writers - all with their own story. One of my favorite memories was working with talented composer, Elizabeth Alexander and having the pleasure to sing one of her most daring and fun pieces about tropical mangoes. Let me say, it was a juicy piece that had me smiling inside from beginning to end! The whole experience taught me to believe in myself and inspired me to not be afraid to be versatile, flexible, and get out of my comfort box. Source Song is an incredible program for artists of all levels - a rewarding experience for those who seek growth. |
