Biography: Nola Strand is a pianist intrigued by the subtleties of language. Originally from small town B.C. she has performed throughout Canada and the US, as well as Mexico and Austria. Nola is sought after as an accompanist and vocal coach. While based in DFW she played for students of Dr. Kimberly Cole-Luevano, Professor Jennifer Lane, and Mary Dibbern, in addition to many NATS and Solo and Ensemble competitions. She has worked as a repetiteur with UNT Opera, Spotlight on Opera and Pensacola Opera.

Nola has participated in masterclasses with Graham Johnson, Julius Drake, Arlene Shrut, and Rena Sharon, among others. In 2018 she formed Duo Commosso with soprano Alicia Wallace. One of the duo’s highlights so far has been performing the songs of Franz Schreker as part of the NATS Artist Series Program.

She holds degrees from the University of Victoria and the University of North Texas. While at UNT Nola formed North Texas Collaborative Pianists with fellow collaborator Saule Garcia. NTCP promoted the art of musical collaboration through outreach and masterclasses.

Nola currently resides in Oklahoma City, with her husband guitarist Stephen Lochbaum and their two cats. When not making music she is an avid crafter and hopeful gardener.

Source Moment: I have so many fond memories of little moments shared with individual participants. I most appreciated the overall feeling of inclusion and positive energy that existed. I also really loved touring the Schubert Club Museum :)
