Biography: Dorian Cunningham is a young composer who specializes in vocal music. He began his musical career as a singer in a choir at the age of 6. The education he gained from the 8 years he spent with this group are still the bedrock of his technique and musicality. After this, Dorian continued his education at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in San Francisco. In the spring of 2020, he completed his bachelors degree in music composition at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, where he studied with Dr. Kyong Mee Choi and Daron Hagen. Highlights of his time at CCPA include: winning the OperaLab Composition Competition and premiering his opera “Frideswide and the Devil” in 2019, participating in the sixth annual Electroacoustic Music Festival, and numerous other premiers and performances. Currently, Dorian is based in San Francisco where he is a freelance composer and musician.
